NEW CRUISE COMPANY HOPES TO REVOLUTIONIZE TRAVEL TO CUBA Canadian tour operators offer Cuba Cruise, a new option for Canadians to cruise around the island of Cuba On Dec. 4, 2011, Cuba Cruise will set out on its inaugural circumnavigation of Cuba. The new company will run a series of fifteen, seven-night cruises, departing Havana every Sunday from Dec. 4, 2011 through Mar. 18, 2012. All cruises will feature a first-rate entertainment program of Cuban music and dance, accompanied by local guides and cultural interpreters. Prices start at $586 double occupancy for a seven-night cruise and will be aboard Cuba Cruise’s 480 stateroom ship Louis Cristal. Cruises are fully commissionable to travel agents at 12 per cent. Land excursions and beverage packages are eight per cent commission payable. Intineraries begin in the city of Havana, but the ship will call at a new port every day, offering opportunities to visit colonial cities, wilderness nature preserves, and of course the island’s beaches. “Your Cuba” includes a total of six UNESCO world heritage sites and four National Parks & Preserves. The itinerary offers a unique opportunity to experience the country’s history, landscape, and culture in a comfortable travel environment. “Cuba Cruise passengers will be welcomed as privileged visitors to our home and experience the incredible warmth and hospitality that is the true Cuba,” says Ruben Jimenez, director of the Cuba Tourist Board of Canada. “We have taken the best of an all-inclusive and cruise and combined it with a Cuba few will ever have a chance to see,” says company President Dugald Wells. Wells, a 20-year veteran of the cruise industry, was honoured in 2006 by Travel + Leisure Magazine as one of the Top 35 Innovators in travel today. The Louis Cristal is a deluxe cruise ship with a yacht-like modern design and a cruising speed of 18 knots. It features an array of amenities with all the comforts of today’s upscale vessels, including spacious staterooms and suites (some with balconies, and each one equipped with shower, wash basin, telephone, hairdryer & TV), elegant lounges and restaurants, casino and open promenades. The ship also features modern communication facilities including an internet corner, WiFi and roaming GSM mobile phone service. Cuba Cruise package holidays including air from gateway cities across the country (including pre and post hotel options) are being offered now by Canadian and international tour operators, including Transat Holidays, Hola Sun Vacations, Exclusive Tours and Tours Mont-Royal in Quebec
